Your sample will also – in addition to chlamydia – be tested for the less common infection gonorrhea. If you receive a positive result for gonorrhea, you will be contacted by a STI/STD clinic for further examination.
Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted disease that does not always result in symptoms, but when it does they usually appear within a week. The symptoms can be a smarting pain or discharges from urethra and vagina. Compared to chlamydia, gonorrhea is an unusual infection in Sweden. Men who was sex with men and people who have had unprotected sex abroad have a higher risk of getting gonorrhea.
Note that our test is only analyzed for genital chlamydia and genital gonorrhoea. If you are worried that you have been infected exclusively in throat, rectum or eye, please contact a healthcare centre, a youth guidance centre or an STI/STD-clinic.
If you receive a positive test result for gonorrhea, the STI/STD clinic will contact you for further examination and treatment. In order to optimize the treatment further testing might be necessary. Please note that clinics often call from a hidden number.
